Eastern Switzerland and its Alpine region around the Säntis are ideal for a paragliding flight in Appenzell thanks to the extraordinary panorama. Accompanied by an experienced pilot on a tandem flight, you can experience this beautiful region with a huge panoramic view from a unique perspective. You can choose between a thermal / panoramic tandem paragliding flight or a paragliding flight with a private pilot.

Depending on the wind, the tandem paragliding flight starts on Ebenalp with a view of Wildkirchli and Seealpsee near Säntis, from Kronberg or Hoher Kasten. Among other things, enjoy the impressive view of the Säntis, the highest mountain in the Alpstein in eastern Switzerland. A paragliding flight in Eastern Switzerland can of course also be combined with skiing or hiking. The ride on the mountain railroad is an experience in itself. If you opt for a thermal paragliding flight, with a bit of luck you can enjoy the view of Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France and Italy.

Panoramic flight over Appenzell

The classic route over the Alpstein

  • The Experience: A magical gliding flight against the backdrop of the Säntis (Ebenalp, Kronberg, or Hoher Kasten).

  • Availability: Available year-round while the mountain railway is in operation.

Thermal flight Alpstein

Longer & Higher Up the Mountain

  • The Experience: Use the thermals near the cliffs to climb higher. A true bird's-eye view!
  • The view: A view from Säntis across the Rhine Valley all the way to Austria and Germany.
  • When: During the thermal season, from April through September.
  • Duration: Approx. 30 to 45 minutes of airtime.

With the Alpstein, the Appenzell region offers one of the most spectacular backdrops for a tandem flight in Eastern Switzerland. Depending on wind and weather conditions, we take off from Ebenalp, Hoher Kasten, or Kronberg.

The meeting point is usually directly at the respective valley station of the mountain railway. Your pilot will confirm the exact location and time the evening before the flight.

The day of the flight on Aug. 03, 2926 was perfect, as were the equipment and, most notably, the excellent pilot (Yamina??).
However, I would like to note that we were surprised to have to pay the “group leader,” Dani, an additional SFR 30.00 for Leena Vanhala’s cable car ticket before the trip began at the lower station.
This was especially puzzling to me since I had read beforehand on the fare schedule posted for the cable car that a “round-trip fare” for an adult senior is SFR 24.00; therefore, a one-way ticket for my wife should have been SFR 12.00 and not 30.00 as was demanded.

That was a truly amazing experience.

Professional service and guidance from start to finish. From the moment I was greeted until I said goodbye, I felt safe with Renato. Brief, clear instructions before takeoff and before landing. A long flight with great views. Just before landing, I almost needed a bag—and that was quickly provided, too. Luckily, I didn’t need it.

Frequently asked questions about paragliding in Appenzell

We usually meet directly at the valley station of the respective mountain railway (e.g., in Wasserauen for the Ebenalp or in Brülisau for the Hoher Kasten). Your pilot will inform you of the exact meeting point when confirming your appointment.

Yes, definitely! Appenzell offers fantastic excursion destinations for accompanying persons. You can travel up comfortably by train and experience the start up close—for example, at the famous Äscher (Ebenalp) or in the revolving restaurant (Hoher Kasten).

Yes, that's a great idea! After consulting with the pilot, the meeting point can also be moved directly to the launch site on the mountain. Please allow enough time to get to the top on time. Alternatively, you can also start in the valley after the flight and enjoy a hike.

Both mountains are fantastic. Ebenalp is the classic choice, offering views of Lake Seealp and Äscher. Hohe Kasten offers a modern 360° panorama of the Rhine Valley. However, the choice of mountain often depends primarily on the current wind direction on the day of the flight.
